Reusable menstrual pads

In the table below, you will find a comparison of different types of reusable menstrual pads. Among other things, we mention the absorbency of the pads. Do keep in mind that we measured the absorbency of the entire pad, including the wings. We tested the absorbency by weighing the menstrual pads dry and wet. Between weighing, we put them in the washing machine on the rinse cycle, followed by spinning on 400 rpm. This makes all pads equally saturated, so they are comparable. The downside is that the wings are also included in the absorbency. Please, also keep in mind that absorbency is not the only factor. A cloth menstrual pad with a PUL layer will stay dry for longer than one without this waterproof layer. Pads with a “waterproof” layer of microfleece are somewhat in between. 

Pick the right cloth menstrual pad for you 

 The table also shows the closure system. For women who cycle a lot, enjoy horseback riding or motor cycling, the generally used snap closure can be of hindrance. That is the reason for also selling menstrual pads with hook and loop (Velcro) closure or menstrual pads without any kind of closure system. 

We have also listed the materials that the pads are made of, including which materials go against the skin and which against the underwear. Cloth pads with a PUL layer at the backside could slide around a bit, more than pads with cotton or microfleece at the backside. Against the skin, you can choose for natural materials like cotton or bamboo, or the more stay dry feeling of the synthetic microfleece. 

Reusable sanitary pads can also be combined with menstrual underpants or menstrual cups on the days when you need some extra protection.

Our brands

Bare and Boho

The Bare and Boho menstrual pads are made of bamboo with organic cotton with a soft fleece layer of bamboo and organic cotton on the skin side. The bottom contains a water-resistant PUL layer of recycled polyester in a beautiful Bare & Boho print. The sanitary napkins close with a snap and can be clipped around the underwear in two different positions. It is available in four different sizes.

Elskbar

The cloth menstrual pads by Elskbar are made of a soft bamboo layer on the skin side, one or more absorbent bamboo layer in the core and a waterproof TPU layer at the back. You can snap the pads around your underwear. There are three sizes available; size S (panty liner), size M (normal) and size L (night). The TPU side has some of the most gorgeous prints in our product range! 

Imse

The cloth pads by Imse are made of organic cotton and have an inner layer of PUL to prevent leakage. The menstrual pads are available in four sizes, from panty liners to heavy duty night time pads. They are available in black, white and several lovely prints. Most pads close with snaps, but we also carry a snap-free version. 

Little Lamb

Little Lamb produces menstrual pads in three sizes. They are made of bamboo and there is a microfleece layer at the top for a stay dry feeling. The backside has a PUL layer to prevent leakage and the pads close with a snap. The cloth pads are available in different colors and are sold separately.

Modern Cloth

The Modern Cloth Nappies sanitary pads are available in four different sizes. Depending on the size, the sanitary pad has 3 (the smallest three sizes), or 4 (the largest size) absorbent layers of soft bamboo cotton. An anti-puncture core is sewn into the pad, so that moisture is better absorbed. The bottom is made of water-resistant PUL and the sanitary towel closes with press studs.

Petit Lulu

Petit Lulu’s menstrual pads are made of cotton and polyester and have a stay dry microfleece layer at the top, the panty liners have a cotton layer at the top. The backside is made of polyester microfleece, which makes it almost leakproof. The cloth pads by Petit Lulu are available in three sizes and in different colors/ prints.

Popolini

The menstrual pads by Popolini are made of 100% organic cotton. The pads have an opening on the backside, in which you can put one or two included inserts. This makes the menstrual pads adjustable in absorbency. The cloth pads do not have a PUL layer. They are available in one size and are ecru colored.
